I am an historian and YA novelist. Through academic and creative writing I seek to bring the world of Graeco-Roman antiquity and the Early Middle Ages to life. After my PhD in Classics at the University of Queensland, I did a brief stint as a schoolteacher, hated being called ‘sir,’ and dived into storytelling. Research interests include early Christianity, Late Antiquity, Roman Social History, and Classical Reception Studies. My first academic book, Tertullian and the Unborn Child, is available through Routledge. I’ve also written an historical novel, the first of a trilogy based on Vergil’s Aeneid. The title is Ashes of Olympus: The Way Home.
My blog features discussions of my research and creative work as well as the relationship between history and fiction. It includes bonus book reviews. Updates once a week.
